Observation of optical pumping effects in collinear atomic beam - laser beam(s) interaction

چکیده
2014 The detection of optical resonances by observation of the fluorescence light emitted from a fast atomic beam of Na interacting with a collinear laser beam is limited in sensitivity by optical pumping processes. In the experiment reported here, we take advantage of the optical pumping by using a second collinear laser beam, achieving then a gain in fluorescence signal. The effects of the lasers power and polarization on line shapes have been studied in the single laser excitation case as well as in the two laser beams one. J. Detection of optical resonances by observation of fluorescence light emitted from a fast atomic beam when optical pumping occurs
2014 The sensitivity of the method of detection of optical resonances by observation of the fluorescence light emitted from a fast beam excited by a laser in collinear geometry is often limited by the optical pumping. In our method, we propose to take advantage of the optical pumping process to detect optical resonances by using a second laser beam in almost collinear geometry which acts as a d...
متن کاملEnhanced Modulation and Noise Characteristics in 1.55 µm QD Lasers using Additional Optical Pumping
The modulation response, relative intensity noise (RIN) and frequency noise (FN) characteristics of quantum dot (QD) lasers are investigated theoretically in the presence of an external optical beam. Using small signal analysis of the rate equations for carriers and photons, it is demonstrated that by injecting excess carriers into the QDs excited state through optical pumping, the modulation r...
متن کاملOne-dimensional laser cooling of an atomic beam in a sealed vapor cell
We describe a simple experiment that demonstrates one-dimensional laser cooling in a sealed vapor cell. A velocity selective optical pumping scheme was first used to define a collimated beam of atoms within the cell. A particular velocity group of atoms was labeled by optical pumping with one laser and detected by absorption with a second laser. Transverse cooling of this velocity group, which ...
متن کاملSpatial domain interactions between ultraweak optical beams.
We have observed spatial interactions between two ultraweak optical beams that are initially collinear and nonoverlapping. The weak beams are steered towards each other by a spatially varying cross-Kerr refractive index waveguide written by a strong laser beam in a three-level coherently prepared atomic medium. After fusing together, the combined beam shows controllable phase-dependent behavior...
متن کاملMeasuring the deposited energy from a non-ionizing laser beam in water by digital holographic interferometry
Digital Holographic interferometry is a powerful and widely used optical technique for accurate measurement of variations in physical quantities such as density, refractive index, and etc. In this study, an experimental digital holographic interferometry setup was designed and used to measure the amount of energy changes induced by absorption of radiation from a non-ionizing infrared laser beam...
